[KYHAM] Discussions on the list, what is going on behind the scene's and a thought...

Folks,
I have had quite a few inquiries from subscribers of the list as to what I
think about what is going on, and if there is anything going on behind the
scenes of the listserv.
Well, I am going to remain neutral to the situation for two
reason. First, I want this list to be impartial. Second, I am pretty
active in the paperwork, operations, and the administration of two emergency
communications programs. I know the capabilities of amateur radio, and I
utilize them, and other methods. I have seen operators carry a message by
hand through 18 inches of snow because phone systems were inoperable and
there was not a radio operator willing to man a location. (shame on us as
it was inside, warm, and had free coffee and food.) Carrier pigeons, not
yet, but maybe one day. I really don't have an opinion how the message
gets across.
About the list. Over the past several days, I have seen posts from people
who have joined 2-3 years ago, and have never said a "peep" until now. I
am glad you have taken an interest. Each of you has received at least the
"automated welcome message" when you signed up for the list, many a
personal message to use this list to discuss (with decorum) topics
important to amateur radio in Kentucky.
Sadly, as I am writing this, I can count 10 people who have dropped the
listserv because they didn't want to "hear the BS." One of them I consider
a friend. However, to each their own. Interestingly, there have been
several people who have been reading the archives on the web site, who are
not in KY, who have offered comments to the list that were rejected because
they did not take the time to subscribe to the list. In fact, there are a
lot of those on lists on QSL.NET...some are good points, but most are just
people trying to stir the pot and spread dissension.
I am proud of the participants in this conversation who have 99% kept it
civil (the other 1% hasn't been transmitted to the list), and I encourage
all to chime in with well reasoned input. The topic at hand DOES affect
amateur radio in Kentucky because it affects the entire amateur radio
service. It makes me wonder why topics related only to KY amateur radio
do not receive as much input? Are they less important? Do they not strike
cords of emotion, or is there just a feeling of "let me alone to do my own
thing, and don't mess with my license?"

Take care all, and let's keep talking...I'm just talking about interest in
"organized" amateur radio activity in KY, not the topic at hand.
