Many thanks to David Glass ( WA4QAL) who came to our last workshop. He
provided a very nice demonstration of an old time diode detector made of
pieces of metallic crystals and a sewing needle. He had nice samples of
galena and iron pyrites crystals that worked very nicely and our students
had the experience of finding just the "good" spots on the crystals to make
a working detector. His timing was just right because the one of the
students had just finished her "crystal set" version of the radio kit and
another had finished his at the previous meeting. He even donated a couple
of samples of these crystals and his home made wide band impedance coupler
to the workshop for future demonstrations.
  Thank you again David.
