Rev. George O. Cumpton, 70, of Raceland, Ky., went to
be with his Lord
on Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004, in the Community Hospice
Care Center in
Ashland, Ky.
Rev. Cumpton was born Dec. 31, 1933, in West Russell,
Ky., a son of the
late James Ira and Eva Lee Lawson Cumpton. He was also
preceded to
eternal rest by one brother, Herbert Cumpton; and two
sisters, Madeline
Sturgill and Flora Adams.
He was a retired yard conductor for CSX with 33 years
of service and
served in the United States Navy during the Korean War
as a BM2. He was
also the former owner and operator of Cumpton's
Printing in Raceland for
29 years and was a member of the United Transportation
Union 1389.
He was founder and pastor of the Christian Faith
Outreach Church
U.P.C.I. in Ashland for 32 years; was the former
pastor of the Cherokee Gap
Apostolic Church in Webville, Ky.; and served for 12
years as Sectional
Presbyter for the state of Kentucky.
He was a Kentucky Colonel; was commissioned as a
Kentucky Admiral; a
member of the Tri-State Wood Worker's Club; a member
of the Bass Anglers
Sportsman Society; was former Vice President of the
Greenbo Bass Club;
and was a Ham Operator.
Surviving are his loving wife of 51 years, Janet
Stallard Cumpton;
three daughters, Janet Fannin of Cannonsburg, Ky.,
Belinda Cumpton of
Ashland, and Teresa Lewis of Wheelersburg, Ohio; three
sons, George "Tony"
Cumpton of Ashland, Timothy Cumpton of York, Ky., and
Dustin Cumpton of
Raceland; five sisters, Irene Lucas, Joann Scott, Faye
Boggs, Helen
Rose O'Neill, and Connie Foster; five brothers, James
"Junior" Cumpton,
Tom Cumpton, Ira Cumpton, Gene Cumpton and Ed Ray
Cumpton; and four
grandchildren, Ryan Cumpton, Brittany Cumpton, Timara
Lewis and Tristin
Lewis.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday,
Dec. 27, at the
Christian Faith Outreach Church, 2700 Herman Ave., off
29th Street, in
Ashland. Pastor Gene Easterling will officiate the
services. Burial will
be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.
Military graveside services will be conducted by the
American Legion
Post 276 of South Shore, Ky.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the
church.
Evans Funeral Home in Raceland is in charge of
arrangements.
