I often get inquiries from amateurs about what these reports
are that I ask for each month and what they look like.
Secondly, some ask WHY report anything at all. In answer to
the first question, below are sample blank forms for
reporting ARES activity and also a blank form to submit
reports to the Section Traffic Manager (STM) for your local
nets. These can be copied and pasted to a new e-mail and
sent to either of us so that YOUR LOCAL NET's ACTIVITY gets
included in our monthly reports to ARRL. If your net is
already reporting ... WONDERFUL!. If not, why not start
this month for May activity. All it takes is a few minutes
of your time and as you can e-mail them, cost is nil.
In answer to the second question, it is becoming more and
more vital that we justify our use of these amateur radio
bands by showing that we do provide public service and not
just use these frequency allocations for hobby use. Many
DEEP pockets are out there that would love to buy up our HF,
VHF and UHF space to put on commericial services for
business interests and also services that they can SELL back
to all of us and make big profits in so doing! ARRL uses
the info from our reports to show Congress and others that
we are doing something with these bands in the civic good
and not just selfishly playing for our own amusement. If we
are not careful, we may soon find ourselves paying a monthly
fee for the use of a small sliver of all of the free band
space we take for granted today.

Reports for ARES net activity should be sent to me (The
Section Emergency Coordinator) and look like this: (DEC's,
where we have them, collect these from their areas and
consolidate them into regional reports that get sent onward
to me at [email protected] ) If you don't have a DEC, they
can be sent directly to me. Not sure who your DEC is or if
there is one? Look here:

Tom and myself like to get these as early each month as
possible for previous month's activity so we can send a
complete section-wide report to ARRL well before the 10th of
each month. These can be viewed at
http://www.arrl.org/sections/?sect=KY along with other
section items from our Section Manager and others. Any other
questions about some aspect of the report, just ask.
