Hello Amatuers,

The April 7th BARS meeting is going to be dedicated to ARES.  We will hav=
e
Jim Weaver/N8JE ,Director of the Great Lakes Division and John Myers/NB4K=
,
Section Manager for Kentucky, and maybe Ron Dodson/ KA4MAP, SEC for
Kentucky, in attendance.   Ron Nutter/KA4KYI,  Ronnie Ritchie/N4MOM,  Pat=

Spencer/KD4PWL will =

do a presentation on the role of the ham in the disaster.   We are told a=
n
official from the city will also be joining us  to speak.

This dedication is to the families and supporters of ARES during the Ice
Storm 2003..... that means.. spouses, children, parents.. any significant=

other that was left at home to suffer the cold while their significant
"ham" was at a shelter or Kentucky Utilities, or the Emergency Operations=

Center, or somewhere relaying or helping with radio equipment to assist.

This time was a tough time for all.  We can still see the aftermath as we=

drive down the streets and see curbs covered with the tree debris just
waiting for pickup by someone.  Some have obtained private tree removal,
some are waiting on the city.  The announcement made over the radio was t=
o
put your trees on the curb.. and wait for pickup.. even if it took
weeks..... many are curb free of tree limbs.. and many many more are not.=


My request is this.  Please talk to your families and invite them to our
meeting on the 7th of April.  All hams who were involved in any way.   We=

wish to honor your families.

I am planning on this meeting being a social meeting with a cake and soft=

drinks.  A very abbreviated business meeting will be held prior to the
"party".   I refer to this ARES meeting as a party as that is what it wil=
l
be.   A fun and memorable time for all amatuer radio operators.... We
promise not to be "boring"  :-)  And I have a special surprise for the
ladies of the volunteers..

and who.  I need this number to know how many surprises to obtain for the=

meeting.  :-)
