One of our list subscribers suggested that you might want to
reconsider the message I had sent out following the Sept. 11
attacks to be mindful of the content of your radio and
wireless/cordless phone transmissions. If we are discussing
Aunt Sally's birthday cake or tonight's dinner it is not a
big deal however if we are working on something in
infrastructure or if we are a truck driver hauling hazardous
or military cargos etc., caution may be in order. It is
easy to forget that our cordless and even analog cell phones
can be monitored just as easily as a two meter repeater if
the person has the right equipment. Anyone plotting
terrorism is not going to worry about violations of the FCC
Rules for monitoring the prohibited electronic
communications frequencies. The old WWII saying, "Loose
lips, sink ships" still can apply.
It is also speculated that the terror threat level will go
up tonight to ORANGE once again. Be aware of your
surroundings and observant for anything unusual and report
anything that seems out of the ordinary to the authorities.
Let's not get paranoid now, use good judgement in these
matters.
>From info I am seeing it does not appear that there are any
real indicators of any terrorist acts within the US at this
time, however we did not see 9/11 coming either. Keep an ear
to the news at regular intervals and watch for unusual
events across the country. A multi location terror event is
not out of the question.
If you can't remember your amateur radio emergency
frequencies, check them now and post them next to your rigs.
Also double check your phone numbers to be sure everything
you might want is handy.
