COMMENTS:

Weather activations were numerous this month and several
public service activities also took place.

Area 1 alone reported 15 spotter activations as severe
weather threatened the western part of Ky throughout the
month. All together 21 activations for severe weather were
needed across the state for May. During May several
tornadoes touched down and straight line winds endangered
many counties on several occasions. On the evening of May
10 and into the early hours of May 11 alone, a total of four
tornadoes touched down in Hart, Hardin, Lewis and Mercer
counties. For five hours after the tornado hit Mercer
County, amateurs were on duty at the local EOC, field
command post and hospital for communications.

Public service activities this month included: Community
warning siren testing in McCracken County of Area 1. In Area
7, Scott County ARES provided communications for the Horsey
100 Bike ride. Total miles driven was 566 miles in 2 days.
Participation in a table top exercise in Fayette County of
area 13 as well as providing communications for the High
Hope Steeplechase at the Ky Horse Park and for the Diabetes
Walk-a-thon at the Keeneland Race Track.

The Ky SEC attended a demonstration in communications
interoperability held at the state EOC on May 23 sponsored
by Ma-Com Corp.
