I concede that extended QSOs on 146.52 might be a nuisance to those who would otherwise monitor the frequency, but given the capabilities of even an in-expensive 2 meter radio produced in the last 15 or 20 years, it is relatively easy to find a local machine to call on in an emergency or otherwise. My own 2 meter repeater isn't used twice a day most of the time anyway. No one around here listens to "52" mainly because simplex VHF range is not much compared to even a modest repeater. The only thing we use "52" for around here is talking between vehicles while traveling together.
