I have had a couple of requests for further clarification of
the point I was trying to make in the training for the week.
For the benefit of anyone else who may be holding back on
asking for the same thing, I offer the following...
Any time, any one, asks another person or group to do
something they need to be able to authorize the work being
done.
EXAMPLE SCENARIO:
Say a man who says his name is Sam Smith asks you to go over
to the local Bingo game and transport the money to the
bank. You, as an individual ham, go to the Bingo game and
present yourself to the people running the game and announce
to them that you are an amateur radio operator and will be
taking their money to the bank. They will likely either
show you the door or worse yet, call the cops! When you
explain that Sam Smith asked you to do this and they say,
"WHO is Sam Smith?", how are you going to feel?
This is my point.
It works the same with a group of ARES members.
If you show up and present yourself to do a job no one in
authority asked help in doing, you look foolish.
We don't want or need to look foolish. Make more sense?
Sometimes I guess I am not as clear as I think I am.

Ron
