It is incumbent upon me as Section Manager to keep the Field Service part of
the ARRL running and up-to-date as best as possible. Therefore I am making
this formal announcement that the morning session of the Kentucky Traffic
Net will end with the last session on December the 31, 2003. It has been
blessed with many a good net controls and over the past few years and the
same dedicated individuals lately. The net is prosperous and gaining check
ins monthly . However the traffic is not there to warrant the net. We will
be keeping the evening net at it's present time and frequency. Jim Hicks,
WB4CTX will remain the Net Manager and net reports need to be sent to him.
The Traffic Net will after the first of the year fall under the Section
Emergency Coordinator and the ARES program. This will bring Kentucky in line
with the Volunteer Resource Committee's July report. I would however like to
see someone step forward and start up a net that will allow check ins,
comments and what ever would need to be brought up to the ham community. I
don't care if this would or would not be an affiliated net or what it would
be called, maybe the Good Morning Kentucky Phone Net????
Next I am doing away with the Kentucky Traffic Managers position as it no
longer will have a function other than monthly reports and those can be sent
to me after the first of the year at [email protected]. I want to thank Tom
Lykins, K4LID for his many years of faithful service the ARRL and it traffic
system. Tom has and will remain an meaningful part of the Kentucky Section
as his history of this section is of the utmost importance to the staff and
myself. He will also be the Silent Key Administrator as in the past.
Any question on this or the future operation of the ARES/traffic net can
either be sent to me or Jim Hicks, WB4CTX, [email protected]. We're looking
for this to be a positive step not only in traffic handling but also
comradery. Hope to see you all on the new net in the mornings and the
traffic net in the evenings.
