I use a Yeasu 1500-M 2m rig both as a base station and a mobile rig. I have had a couple people tell me that although I have a strong signal (one person read S6 or so on simplex) my audio is VERY weak. The rig does not have a mic "gain" per say, only the ability to switch to narrow deviation with lesser mic gain for crowded band conditions. Naturally, when in this narrow deviation mode the audio is less. These reports usually come when I'm running the rig as my base station. I use a J-Pole that is unfortuately at this time simply leaning up against the house or bushes (which ever I get to first). The SWR is around 1.5:1 which I feel is acceptable. According to the manuel, the radio draws about 10 amps on transmit. My power supply is regulated and supplies 12 amps constant with 14 amps surge. The rig is not grounded. The mic I'm using came with the radio. Any suggestions or thoughts?
Thanks in advance.
