Ladies and Gents,
Let's not go down this road. I am defending no-one, and everyone. The fact
remains that this topic line is going to very quickly get way out of
control unless I step in at this point and issue an administrative "shot
across the bow" to those who are considering continuing this conversation
and turning it into an argument or flame war.

KYHAM exists as a forum for information important to Kentucky amateur radio
operators and Kentucky amateur radio organizations. It will remain as such.

Please refresh yourself with the rules of conduct of the listserv if you
feel it is necessary to understand what is expected of you when posting
here. They are going to be reposted here in short order after a revision.

This is where it gets difficult for me personally as it forces me to make a
public decision. Over the past few weeks, there have been some posts
regarding the Division Director Elections. After each post, there has been
a very steady stream of complaints made to me privately about not having
political statements on the listserv. After careful consideration, here is
what I feel I need to do to help resolve this situation for now, and in the
future..

Elections of officers that involve Kentucky amateur radio organizations, or
organizations that operate in Kentucky are important to their members, and
in a general way to all of us because their activities affect the amateur
radio community in Kentucky. As a result, information about the elections
is welcome on KYHAM. At the same time, debates about any political process
can easily grow to be acrimonious and cause personal conflict. As a result,
electoral posts will be restricted to the candidates themselves in the form
of a statement introducing themselves, where they stand on the issues, and
how they plan to do the job if they are elected.

We are all intelligent enough to make our own decisions based upon these
statements. If you would like to debate the candidate, do so privately, not
over the listserv. Furthermore, candidates often have their own web sites
where they can espouse whatever information they wish.

If there is a lot of interest in an election, I will ask for submissions of
questions for the candidates, and collect them and pose them to the
candidates, and after giving them plenty of time to answer them, post them
to the listserv.
I don't want to restrict electoral information as it is important to
Kentucky amateurs who the leaders of their organizations are. However, I
want to guard against human nature and the fervor created by elections and
provide structure for the information.

Take care! 73,
Pat Spencer, KD4PWL
