The monthly Bluegrass Amateur Radio Society Fox Hunt will be tonight at
9:00 in Fayette County on 146.520.
This month's fox will be Sam Painter, KF4URQ, and his wife who has
participated in several fox hunts and has dropped the gauntlet that he will
not found.
The fox hunt is used as a training exercise to learn/sharpen radio
direction finding skills. Thus far, we are still learning, and the foxes
are not being too devious, and are remaining in a fixed location.
This is the perfect opportunity for those interested in learning about fox
hunting and want to practice. You don't need a good deal of equipment to
get started at this level. Most of us use our mobile rig and an HT to
attenuate the signal when we get close. Those who are more accomplished at
fox hunting are sure welcome to use whatever special equipment they may have.
The fox hunts are conducted with a lot of seriousness, and a lot of good
humor. Several spouses of hams are even participating because they enjoy
the fun and fellowship. The prize is if you catch the fox, you get to be
the fox next month. Playing the fox is a good deal of fun.
Everyone is most invited to come participate, so if you are in or near
Lexington and have a little time this evening, please come join us.
Take care, 73,
Pat, KD4PWL
