COMMENTS:

As usual, when summer days dwindle down, manhours go UP!
Quite a change from reports during the warmer months.

For the first time in several months severe storms rolled
through parts of the section on Sept. 20 causing some
spotter activations. Storms with torrential rains and flash
flooding reappeared on Sept. 26-27 as the remnants of
Hurricane Isidore passed through the region. Coordination
was also done during the month with the National Weather
Service in preparation for the SET 2002 scheduled for Oct.
5th using a weather based scenario.

In Area 5- Emergency Management type Damage Assessment
training was held for amateurs and other agencies in Meade
County on Sept. 25, 2002.

In Area 14- Several amateurs worked the the American Lung
Association's Bike Trek. During this three day
event amateurs used the Danville 146.655 repeater to help
with lost bikers and other possible emergencies

The SEC attended Kentucky's first ever Terrorism Summit in
Louisville, Ky on Sept. 28. This offered an excellent
opportunity to interact with FBI officials as well as
several EM and other public safety response agencies in the
state. Along with other training, case studies on the 1995
Oklahoma City bombing and the 9/11 attack on the Pentagon
were conducted by the incident commanders from both scenes
and the FBI special agents who worked the incidents. The SEC
also briefed a good portion of the 500 attendees on the ARRL
Emergency Communications Courses now being conducted as a
part of the homeland security grant received in July during
a lunch time 'break out session' on emergency response. 73
