We have seen many new calls appear across
Kentucky of late and this should be a
great joy to the public service minded amateur.
New blood means the continuance of our hobby.
MAY & JUNE ARE TRAFFIC HANDLING MONTHS!
In an effort to give these new amateurs a 'leg up'
on their understanding of public service
communications, these next several weeks we will review
topics from earlier KEN nets such as proper Radiogram
message format, writing and transmission along with
explanations for the "check of the message", " Handling
Instructions" etc. Let's welcome and encourage our newer
amateurs as they learn more about this wonderful service we
all love.
New hams can either tune in on the Ky Emergency Net each
Monday evening at 8:00 PM EDT, 7:00 PM CDT on 3.888 MHz
lower side band or one of the many training nets we have
across the state on VHF and UHF repeater and simplex
frequencies. Also pass the word to those with internet
access about this listserv and the Ky Amateur Radio
website available through the link below.

A few "OT's" still show an attitude of prejudice against new
hams.
This is not healthy for any of us or them. A friend just
passed his Extra exam yesterday after months of study.
I consider him just as much an Extra class as I am,
though I have had mine since the 20 wpm test days.
New "Techs", "General's" and "Extra's" deserve a chance
to learn and come to love our hobby as much as we do.
It is the responsibility of each of us "more experienced"
op's to help the new folks on their way. If we don't give
them good advice on being a valued part of the amateur
community at large, WHO WILL???
