Hi Mike,
The easiest is a variation on the zeppelin antenna or zepp called a J pole.
It can easily be made form a length of inexpensive 300 ohm TV twinlead. The
overall length is 3/4 wavelengths. One end us shorted together and one
conductor cut away and removed 1/4 wavelength from the shorted end. This
provides a low to high impedance transformation, which drives the remaining
half wavelength of single wire at its voltage feed point.
Ideally, it should be fed with a half wave coaxial balun, which provides a
200 ohm balanced source. The resulting 200 source is connected to the
twinlead at a point that provides proper loading as shown by highest filed
strength and or a proper 50-ohm match to the source.
A simple alternative is to ground the 50-ohm coaxial source to the 3/4
wavelength side and attach the center conductor to the 1/4 wavelength side.
The point of best attachment is usually a couple of inches from the shorted
end. Some experimentation is needed to get the best match consistent with
highest field strength.
This device can be placed in a hotel room in a hot spot and the 1/2
wavelength end suspended by a length of monofilament fishing line in a
"hotspot".
Good Luck and let me know how you make out.

Subject: [KYHAM] 2 Meter Antenna Question
I am going on a trip to Florida next week. I intend to take my HTX 242
along for the journey. Can anyone suggest an anenna configuration that I
can set up in my hotel and can be packed with the luggage?
