While not strictly amateur related, I'm forwarding this request for any
amateurs interested in volunteering to help with the training of rescue,
wilderness and cadaver dogs. In the event of an actual emergency, we'll all
be there together. Rescue dogs find the living among ruins (as in after a
tornado or 9-1-1), wilderness dogs find lost people in the wilderness, and
cadaver dogs locate the remains of those not found by the previous two.
Kidding aside, cadaver dog work is no less important to the families of the
deceased. All these dogs have important work to do and benefit from having
a variety of different scents to train with. Training sessions are always
very short so the dogs don't become tired or frustrated. In most cases
sessions take up less than an hour of your time. I hide on occasion and
always find it to be fun and fascination. As for body parts, if you don't
need them any longer, please consider donating them for the purpose of
training as well. If interested, please contact me at
[email protected] and we'll make arrangements for you to get
involved. 73, KG4QFW
