The next time someone tells you that the government
sector no longer has use for ham radio and that the
internet and cell/pager technology of the 21st century
has made amateur radio obsolete in disaster work,
show'em this!  If LAFD feels this way, why not our Ky
counties who are certainly lower budget operations than
this department.

HAM Operators Wanted
"The Emergency Operations Organization of the City of
Los Angeles has
designated the Los Angeles Fire Department to manage
its amateur radio
program under the Auxiliary Communication Service
agreement with the State
Office of Emergency Services. The Fire Chief has
authorized the group to
enroll up to 500 licensed Hams to be trained to back up
the Department's 800
MHz radio system, provide radio support to CERT
members, their families and
their Battalion leadership and 40 meter support to USAR
for passing health
and welfare traffic.
If you are a licensed amateur radio operator who
desires further serve the
Department and the community, contact the Assistant
City Radio Officer for
Administrative Services at (562) 696-6096 or
[email protected] and tune in to
the LAFD-ACS NET on Monday evenings at 1930. The
2-meter Repeater frequency
is 147.300 +600 with a PL of 110.9. The 220 band is
224.680 -1.6 with a PL
of 114."
