Armed Forces Day Anniversary
Military/Amateur Crossband Communications Test
May 11, 2002
The Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard are co-sponsoring th=
e=20
annual military/amateur radio communications tests in celebration of the 52n=
d=20
Anniversary of Armed Forces Day. Although the actual Armed Forces Day is=20
celebrated May 18, the Armed Forces Day Military/Amateur Crossband=20
Communications Test will be conducted on May 11 (local) so as not to conflic=
t=20
with the Dayton Hamvention scheduled for the same weekend (May 17-19).=20
The annual celebration features traditional military to amateur crossband=20
communications test and the message receiving test. These tests give Amateur=
=20
Radio operators and short wave listeners an opportunity to demonstrate their=
=20
individual technical skills and receive recognition from the Secretary of=20
Defense or the appropriate military radio station for their proven expertise=
.=20
QSL cards will be provided to those making contact with the military=20
stations. Special commemorative certificates will be awarded to anyone who=20
receives copies of the digital Armed Forces Day message from the Secretary o=
f=20
Defense.

Military-to-Amateur Cross Band Test Contacts
Military-to-Amateur cross band operations will take place May 11-12. Times=20
in Zulu (UTC) and frequencies for each station are listed below. Voice=20
contacts will include operations in single sideband voice (SSB). Some=20
stations may not operate the entire period, depending on propagation and=20
manning. Participating military stations will transmit on selected military=20
MARS frequencies and listen for amateur radio stations in the amateur bands=20
indicated below. The military station operator will announce the specific=20
amateur band frequency being monitored. Duration of each voice contact shoul=
d=20
be limited to 1-2 minutes. The following stations will be transmitting on=20
MARS frequencies listed below, which are provided as =E2=80=9CWindow/Dial Fr=

Submission of Test Entries
Transcripts of the RTTY, PACTOR, AMTOR or CLOVER receiving test should be=20
submitted "as received". No attempt should be made to correct possible=20
transmission errors. Provide time, frequency and call sign of the military=20
station copied, including name, call sign, and address (including ZIP code)=20
of individual submitting the entry. Ensure this information is placed on the=
=20
paper containing the test message. Each year a large number of acceptable=20
entries are received with insufficient information, or necessary information=
=20
was attached to the transcriptions and was separated, thereby precluding=20
issuance of a certificate. Entries must be sent to the following military=20
