Jamboree On The Air (JOTA) 2006 will be October 20th and 21st. The local
scout district is planning a camporee for that weekend, and would like to
have JOTA be a major part of the program. I need volunteers to make this
happen.

The last time we did this we had five HF stations and one shortwave
listening station. We also offered the Radio merit Badge, had a fox hunt,
demonstrated APRS, and contacted the International Space Station.

This time I hope to have at least four HF stations, contact the Space
Station, and have at least two other activities. Several non-radio
activities are also being planned.

Operation will probably be limited to Saturday during the day. Twenty and
forty meters are probably the only bands that we can depend on, but
seventeen may be open. Some of the stations should use SSB, but PSK31 also
works very well for the Scouts.

We will use the permanent station at Camp Buffalo. It is already set up to
work any band in SSB, PSK31, or CW. Operators are all that is needed for
this station. Three or four more portable stations will need to be assembled
and staffed.

I want to be sure we contact the Space Station if it is on the air. I am
thinking we could set up an activity area that includes shortwave listening
and other activities to fill the time between satellite passes. This was the
highlight of day the last time we did JOTA.

Please let me know if you can help.
