On behalf of the Club's Board-
Sorry for the short notice. Tomorrow is the first Tuesday of the month
and we are still trying to use VOIP for meetings.
1. Its time for the Annual ARRL Field Day (26 June). Not sure of the
mask requirements out there but that's changing off base lets hope it
start to become optional on base as well. First trip to Walmart today
in some time and as one of the fully vaccinated shopping without the
mask was a treat!
We have been unable to do a walk thru of the deployment kit but I am
fairly sure its ready for use, just too many conflicts with available
member schdules. Due to the this short timeline of things I am going to
encourage we operate from the club station, wearing masks if it's still
required on base of course.
We can do more from the club station and weather is not an issue. Since
we are fully battery backed up on the radios we can claim to be an E
Class station or some such. Really need to get someone smart on the ARRL
Rues thus year.
As is normal the Club picks up the cost of lunch for participants so we
need someone to step up and be our Club Food Coordinator. This usually
means they buy a supply of bottled water, sodas and ice and to keep
things simple this Coordinator make the lunch run to a local vendor like
Subway or a burger joint. So please be sure to let me or a board member
know your plans so we can coordinate correctly. Decide on what venue we
hope to use at this meeting please. Look at your own schedule for the
day and see let us know what you want t do, Keeping in mind we may need
t move folks around to maximize operations.
The Station will cease MARS operations for the day (26 Jun) and allow
operators onto multiple HF rigs and the VHF/UHF gear for making
contacts. Lastly we need a volunteer to step up and get smart of the
rules of this annual event and ensure we do things in accordance with
those rules.
We can do this with as few as 3 people but honestly I would like to see
10 or more. Cover as many bands as we can and make as many contacts as
possible.
Not looking to compete with those big gun stations out there, but want
to see both the KL7AIR and KL7USA logbooks reflecting we tried anyway.
May need to run KL7AIR on HF and KL7USA on the V/U Bands to say within
those rules.
Lets get some people working the Field Day Committee sooner than later
and iron our the plan. I have not worked out what CAP has going on that
weekend. If they are using the building we will need to relocate to the
"field".
Pat please check with your CAP contacts to make sure we are not in a
schedule conflict.
If you have access to the base problems we will provide transport via a
sponsor to get you onboard.
2. Couple of remaining maintenance issues needing attention, replacement
of the oldest roof camera is one of those issues. New camera is in hand
we just need to install it.
3. Last major item that comes to mind is the selling of the IC-756Pro II
Radio that's collecting dust in storage. Good deal for a Club Member
otherwise we may take up Craig KL7H's offer to take it to lower 48 and
sell it there. He has access in Nevada to a larger pool of buyers.
We waived dues for 2021 and I had expected to see a tick up in
membership as a result, seems we did not get that work out well yet.
Open forum for this meeting since we have a lot to get done very
quickly. Not trying to take charge , just want to make sure these items
are discussed.
Due to my health issues this year my ability to do much is limited. If
your not aware, my wife and I have spent too much time as an inpatients
at Providence Hospital. On a long slow road to recovery as I type.
Barring the unexpected, I will join you on the teleconference on Tuesday.
If you have suggestons/concerns please contact Club at kl7air.us and or
call 907-552-2662 and leave a message.
