So it seems like the consensus is that a marine handheld *could* be a
useful tool out there, but only for VERY *limited* use, like in an
emergency or coordinating with the water taxi service. And it's a good
point that it is a pricey investment for a single use device.

Is there much monitoring of other frequencies/services out there on the
water? I'm thinking FRS/GMRS, CB, etc.
