That's pretty cool. It should be a good "proof of concept" for stretching
that network out further. Some thoughts:
1. It will be interesting to monitor the connection strength as weather
systems move through. That will be a great test of microwave links in the
local area.
2. Imagine combining a mesh node and a high gain UHF system on the same
site. Well-chosen backbone locations could have microwave (mesh) links and
high-gain UHF (digipeater or RMS node) links installed side by side. Power
supplies, enclosures, and even the computer system could be shared. Users
of both mesh and traditional UHF/VHF would gain long distance links for
packet, winlink, or high speed data. You could link most of southcentral AK
that way, with AREDN for the microwave side, and packet, winlink, and/or
APRS for the UHF side.
