QST All Area Amateurs:
Big happenings at the Anchorage Amateur Radio Club. We have an active lease
application into the Anchorage Airport to take over the vacant FCC building
on Raspberry Road as our new clubhouse. Currently it is only an application
that we are working but the intent is to relocate there this summer! This
facility would allow us to consolidate all of our activities in one location
that has suitable room for inside activities and outside for antennas as
well as sufficient parking.
In addition to the clubhouse project, we are working on a website upgrade
with ties into the modern social media outlets like Facebook and Instagram.
Those methods of engaging our members will add to our outreach capabilities
beyond the current structure.
Since we are now a full nonprofit, donations are tax deductible. We already
have easy ways to assist the club in this manner including such things as
Amazon Smile (active now, if you use Amazon regularly please sign in instead
using the Smile account and select AARC as your charity) as well as directly
via the website.
Please consider your skills and where you like to add to the pool of talent.
Directed requests for organized volunteer activities will be coming if we
are successful in our lease application. Many skills will be needed, here
are some examples of needs:
If we move to the FCC Site we will need:
1. People to help clean and organize the new site
2. Assistance with moving material from Rowan to the FCC site
3. Anyone with landscaping equipment to cut the grass and clear the
weeds
4. Various trades skill sets for upgrades (for example we may want to
redo the bathrooms, are you a plumber that would like to volunteer? Or we
may want to upgrade outdoor lighting, are you an electrician?)
5. Perhaps you are an accomplished fundraiser, we need your help. Or
do you work with a potential corporate sponsor? The AARC aspires to be a
strong lead in STEM activities as well as our other strengths.
6. Many other areas not listed here.
There are other areas of need:
1. Help with putting together an educational program for the public,
potential hams, new hams, old hams, and those in-between
2. A Newsletter editor - note, we are upgrading the website and this
task will be modernized and quite different
3. Radio operators for the suite of regular summer support programs
(come to the April General Membership meeting to hear more or contact
activities at kl7aa.net)
The work on the FCC site will be updated for the club at the April meeting.
Work progresses regularly and we hope to know more by mid-May.
However, if you are going to be interested in this exciting activity, please
email me at al7lo at arrl.net so I can put you on the list to be contacted.

PS: If you haven't already contacted our senators concerning the Amateur
Radio Parity Act, please do. That bill has already cleared the house and we
need to gather support. More information on that available at
