The Sept ARRL VHF+ Contest starts this coming Saturday at 1800UTC. This
event happens 3 times a year, January, June and September.
Even if your not into contesting your fellow area hams would love to log
you for this event.
This contest covers 6 meters, 2 meters, 1.25 meters, 70 cm, 23 cm and
up. Any mode so even your monoband FM HT will work! For the Tech's out
there, this one is perfect for you as you can operate everywhere the
contest covers.
Frequencies used in the South Central AK area are below. No repeaters,
all simplex. Do not use the 2m calling frequency of 146.52!
If we had a larger group of people operating in the area on simplex we
would avoid any calling frequency. But this is not a big lower 48
city. So except for 2m the other calling frequencies are quite dead
except on for Tuesday night for an hour (South Central Simplex Net).
There will be stations on from the Kenai, the Valley and of course here
in Anchorage. You do not need to submit a log unless you want to. As a
group we appreciate the additional contacts we can log when more folks
chime in. Listen up for stations calling CQ CONTEST starting 1800UTC
Saturday (10am local). As they shift to new bands they will announce
where they are heading.
Exchange is easy enough a signal report (usually 59 since we are simplex
and fairly close) and your Grid Sq. Kenai is BP40 or BP50 depending if
your east or west, Valley is BP41, and Anchorage is BP51. More info is
at "http://www.qsl.net/a/ak-vhf//Contests/". Unsure where you are Grid
wise? Try this link- "http://www.n6spd.com/grids/usgridsq_2.jpg".
