The local amateur radio operators have long been able to both support
community events and exercise their mobile and repeater equipment. The
season for these events is upon us.

If you have been to the recent AARC monthly Friday meetings you have heard
some announcements of several events about to happen, but if not here is
some information if you are willing and able to help.

May 10th will be a walk around Lake Hood. The club motorhome will be there
to act as net

control and to show how serious our group of "amateurs" really is. Besides
net control positions,

we need shadows for the race officials and rest stop communicators.

May 31st is the MS Bike Ride from Girdwood to Hope and back. This is the
ultimate test of

HAM communications. No internet, no cell coverage and lots of mountains.
Once again the motorhome

will act as net control. There are seven rest stops. Race officials need to
be shadowed.

All support vehicles require HAM operators. This event used to be both
Saturday and Sunday

but has been shortened to Saturday only by rider request. And moved to
earlier in the year (it

used to be in September).

So please come and be appreciated, receive a tee shirt, test your batteries
and mag mount antenna.

Meet some wonderful people that work very hard at raising money (that stays
in Alaska)

to fight MS.

Please contact Allen KB1QCE at allenabbott90 at msn.com or 907 947-0827 to
volunteer.
