I don't know if many of you are aware that Amateur Radio Emergency Service
(ARES) is coming back to life under the leadership of Mike O'Keefe, KL7MD,
and Heather Hasper, KL7SP. Mike is the new District Emergency Coordinator
(DEC) and Heather is the local Emergency Coordinator (EC). Mike and
Heather are revitalizing the training which brings back the fun to
emergency preparedness.
Each month (see below for May info) they plan for ARES training so that
every third Saturday morning of the month we can all increase and enhance
our emergency skills. There was a time a few years back when 25+ hams
would show up for these meetings and they were fun. As a community we were
growing and learning. Unfortunately the meetings fell away and so did the
feeling of comradeship we all had. That is changing for the better now.
I encourage each of you to think about what level of skills, knowledge, and
preparedness and you would like to have for yourself and for your family if
we have a big emergency...an earthquake...a big fire. With that in mind,
please decide to attend each monthly training session. I think you will be
glad of your decision to participate and learn.
Good luck.
73, Jim

ARES TRAINING: May 19, 2007
Our training this month will be at the Carr-Gottstein Building at Alaska
Pacific University at 9:30AM.
In preparation for the summer field work season and Field Day, we will be
learning and discussing ropes, knots, guys and anchors used in securing
antennas and towers in both portable, temporary and permanent foundations.
If possible, bring some lengths of rope with you to help assure that we
have enough for everyone.
