Good morning Managers and Section Emergency Coordinators,

To date, amateurs have responded and traveled from all over the USA to
assist in the disaster area. I think that when this is over we will have
processed and assigned amateurs from nearly ARRL section.

The 12 amateurs needed in Steve's e-mail was just for yesterday. The
need for communications is still real!

Thank you for your support.

Greg Sarratt, W4OZK

Hello, Section Managers and Section Emergency Coordinators.

Early this evening, I talked with Alabama Section Manager Greg Sarratt,
W4OZK, at the American Red Cross staging area in Montgomery, Alabama.

There is still an on-going need for more Amateur Radio operators to
provide communications for the Hurricane Katrina Relief efforts. Today,
for example, about 12 more operators were needed to fulfill the requests
from American Red Cross. The needs are quite fluid. They are changing
each day.

Greg reports that the primary mission would be to provide communications
for Red Cross kitchens and shelters in the areas that Katrina caused
havoc. The Red Cross is adding more shelters each day, so that is one
reason why more operators are needed.

Also, Greg stated that relief operators will be needed to cover shelter
and kitchen-communication assignments that have already been established
over the past week or so.

Greg and his crew in Montgomery have also been assigning radio operators
to help with the Salvation Army at various locations as their needs
arise. The Montgomery site is the place to report to and receive
orientation before being deployed into a hurricane-stricken zone.

If you know of anyone in your sections that's willing and able to help,
please contact Greg Sarratt, W4OZK via e-mail

DR871-06RTT-RCO3 at usa.redcross.org

He will be able to provide further information.

The address for the American Red Cross staging center is:

ARC Headquarters
DR#871
2333 East South Blvd
Montgomery Al, 36111

e-mail: DR871-06RTT-RCO3 at usa.redcross.org

Thank you and 73,

Steve Ewald, WV1X
