Greetings, All;
We had originally planned to support the Boy Scouts of America Jamboree
on the Air this coming Saturday, October 16, but that has, alas, fallen
through. We will meet, however, 0930-1200 at the CCV garage on Rowan St.
and E. Dowling Rd. for a familiarization tour of the Yaesu Mark V, as
well as some prep work for our November exercise and a few other odds
and ends. Everyone is welcome.
As a side note, I believe that JOTA could be a very valuable event for
amateur radio as well as the scouts, but we (as the AARC) need to be the
driving force. I am seeking a volunteer to manage this event next year.
This will involve designing a program that hooks into the various Scout
radio and electonics programs, securing a venue, communicating with the
scout (boy, girl, cub, eagle, explorers, etc.) organizers and planning
with them how the 'hooks' will fit the Scouting program and dealing with
the details. I'll help (I volunteer right now to help) but I can't do it
all.
Anchorage ARES will provide support in terms of equipment, personnel and
(given the cooperation of the AARC) a budget for the awards,
certificates, etc., that the scouts make available for this event. The
AARC has some experience with this and I'm certain that we can do it
well, if someone will volunteer to be the front man/woman.
If we do this well, we can create an event that will hook gracefully
into the Scouting program and provide the young people involved with an
exposure to amateur radio that can potentially benefit everyone
involved, but *we* need to provide the scouts with the motive power and
direction. We'll need to be doing this starting pretty much right now,
so if you are interested, let me know (mailto:kl0qw at alaska.net). AARC
and ARES can provide a great deal of support, but I can't do this
without your active support.
Please join us, 0930-1200, Saturday, October 16 at the CCV garage, E.
Dowling and Rowan St. Talkin WL7CVG repeater, 147.27, plus, 103.5Hz tone.
73,
phil
