Greetings from Anchorage,

Just a few notes:

1. Remember the Anchorage Amateur Radio Club (AARC) newsletter can be
read online at:

http://home.gci.net/~lawson/

=============================================

2. Alaska QRP Club meets the Third Friday of every month - 7:00 PM
(Some show for dinner at 6PM): Hams with QRP (low power under 5 watts)
and Homebrewing interests meet for a social meeting monthly. Meet at
Dennys (in the back room) on DeBarr near Bragaw. Contact is Jim Larsen,
AL7FS, [email protected] or 345-3190. Information on the QRP Club
and what kits we are building can be reviewed online in the past two
AARC newsletters at http://home.gci.net/~lawson/

3. ARES Training Session is Set -
(The new ARES Alert for Nov 7 is at http://home.gci.net/~lawson/ )

Saturday, November 16-17, 2002 will be the November ARES training
session and a power house training session it will be. ARES will enter
and participate in the ARRL Sweepstakes voice DX-HF contest which lasts
for 24 hours Saturday and Sunday. All those coming out will be able to
share in the fun of working stations all over the country on the two new
YEASU Mark V transceivers mounted in the CCV (Communications Command
Vehicle). Refreshments will be served. The location is the BP campus
parking lot between the BP office building and the new BP community
center. The BP campus is located between Benson and 36th just east of
New Seward Highway.

In the event of a real emergency, ARES will most likely be most active
on HF frequencies passing welfare traffic. How to pass that traffic,
how to work the National Traffic System, how to work the gear in the CCV
and how to make coffee in the motorhome will all be part of the
training.

ALL HAMS, those with general or better licenses able to work in the HF
bands, and no-code technicians, are welcome. Those with HF licenses
will operate from the station and mentor the rest of us. Those with
only no-code VHF privileges will also use the HF gear and make contacts,
pass traffic and get valuable training, although under the watchful eye
of licensed control operators.

How can you participate? Just call Dick Block, KL7RLB, and register.
This is necessary because we must notify our host, BP, of who will be on
their campus and using their restroom facilities over the weekend. It
is also helpful to schedule shifts convenient to all those wishing to
participate. Dick Block can be reached (h) 277 7260 (o) 563 5121 or
ARES net, 147.300 + 141.3 tone.
