[Kenwood] TH F6A question

I have an F6A, which mostly appears to be working normally.

However, the mode indication on the display is flashing.
All other display functions are OK, and the radio itself
is OK, receives as it should. This is on both A and B bands.

I looked in the manual and found no mention of
a flashing indication for the mode.

Anyone have any idea of what this means?

For reference, this radio is about 20 years
old. I'm not on FM much anymore, but I'm using the
radio to track down power line noise.
