No, they're not.

The first rumors I can remember started around the late 80's right after
they discontinued the TS-830S.
Since then, they pop up every couple of years. 
Kenwood doesn't pop out several new products each year like Icom and
Yaesu. 
They milk each product to the last drop. 
Obviously it perks the amateur radio intelligence when they don't see new
products flowing out of Kenwood each year.

For lots of fun and giggles about this ever enduring rumor, review the

the earlier threads on the same subject.
With these two links below being long, they will probably wrap to the
