[Kenwood] Having trouble getting TH74 to be recognized by software

I have previously had success connecting the radio to my computer via this USB cable when I updated the Firmware from 1.09 to 1.10.

Here are my steps that result in failure...

Using Kenwood MCP-D74

With radio off and disconnected from PC, I open the Device Manager.

No Ports devices exist.

I connect the TH74A to the PC via a USB cable. I then turn the TH-74A on.

A 'Port' device appears in the Device Manager and specifically 'TH-74A (COM4)' now appears in the listing of devices.

I open MCP-D74 program. I acknowledge the standard 'First Import from the Radio before doing anything else.' dialog.

I notice in the status bar that the program is currently set to COM 3. I choose the Setup/COM Port Setting... dialog. The program already knows that the port should be COM 4 and I press 'Close' to acknowledge that.

I select 'Read Data form (sic) the Transceiver'. I press the 'Read' button.

Error! 
	It is asking if the radio is connected to COM 4, If the radio is On, and if all settings are standard.

Using TH-D74 Programmer from RT Systems

Restart the computer for a fresh go at it. I open the Device Manager and see no Port devices.

Radio is Off and not connected.

Open TH-D74 Programmer.

From the Communications menu, I select 'Get Data From Radio...'

Per instructions, I connect the radio via USB. I also turn the radio On.

The Port device listing appears in the Device Manager. The device is now listed as TH-D74 (COM3)

I press the OK button.

The dialog changes to 'Attempting Communications...'. A second dialog appears saying 'Incorrect radio ((null)) connected.'

I have reset the radio to Mfr original settings. I then corrected the time zone. I then repeated the above with no change in results.
