[Kenwood] TS-850 mixer coil, display contrast

Hi,

I've been working on a TS850 that has sat on the floor for a few years
gathering dust, literally. When retired it had, and stil has, need of L6
on the second IF, audio board. L6 is the same as L4 and L5 and is a 6mm
cube can at 8.83MHz but in the L6 position tuned to 8.375 to inject CAR4
into the first TX mixer.

I've seen complete boards on eBay but consider that total overkill for
just one transformer. Wonder if someone might have a bad board they
could pull parts from? My other thought is to maybe wind something on a
tiny toroid. What say?

Second question concerns the display. It's working fine now the leaky
caps have been replaced and the failed vias rewired but I find the
contrast strange. It's okay if my eyes are in line with the display or
below it but I see every segment of the entire display as soon as my
eyes are higher then the display. This doesn't seem right and I'm sure
it should have a wider vertical viewing angle. Any ideas?

Thanks
Martin, HS0ZED
