The send/receive switch snaps into a detent for the RX position, but does not have such a detent on the TX position..and activating the TX function this way is rather intermittent. I don't know if the switch is broken, or just so dirty that it doesn't move properly. ..good RX sensitivity on all bands, good frequency accuracy and tracking, good power output on all bands, no crazy jumping around of the frequency as the VFO dial is moved, good carrier and opposite sideband suppression... There may be other stuff not quite right as I haven't fully checked it out after (carefully) powering it up. ------------------------ June 30, 2013, at 4:42pm AZ time, 19 of the 20 members of the Granite Mountain Hotshot Crew (wildland fire fighters) lost their lives fighting the Yarnell Hill Fire. My wife and I made the somber hike into the site where they lost their lives. The place is now a state memorial park accessed via an almost 8 mile long trail. Without a similar unit to compare parts to, I find that the unit must be missing parts that allows the analog dial to be adjusted. Does anyone have a breakdown of the parts from knob to the spring? The vernier action of the drive is perfect, otherwise. The present sequence is: Knob - Washer - Silver Graduated Dial - Strong Spring - Washer - "Missing Part[s]" - Nut - Larger Thick Washer - Main Dial - Bronze Washer - Large Thick Washer - Opaque Dial - Weak Spring - Threaded Shaft. I'd appreciate any info that would help me to reassemble the VFO parts, and identify the possible missing ones. Thanks, 73. This may be the Kenwood KB-1 that is well known as being a great knob that improves the performance for changing frequency on many different rigs. The pictures of the KB-1 that I have found do not show a skirt with dial markings on it, but this one has one. FYI, this knob weighs 6.2 oz, and has an outer diameter of 2 1/4 inches. The original Kenwood tuning knob weighs only 1.8 ounces and 2 1/8 inches in diameter. Of course both are made for a 1/4 inch shaft. The SK who had this primarily had Icom equipment, so it is quite possible that this is Icom's equivalent of the Kenwood KB-1. This one looks like it has not been used. I find no scratches on it. These have sold from $97 to $183 on EBay. Buy this one for $100 plus shipping from Florida. . Kenwood MC-50 Desk Microphone: The Kenwood MC-50 is a dynamic cardoid desk microphone. It features a push-to-talk [PTT] and lock button. It has a four pin plug. This mic has connector switched, dual impedance ratings of 50k ohm and 600k ohm. Frequency response is from 150 Hz to 10 kHz. The MC-50 is the perfect match for many of classic Kenwood transceivers such as the TS-120S, TS-520S, TS-530S, TS-830S, plus many others. Of course it can be used with most any modern rig also. This one works fine. It looks fine as well. Paper work is included for $55 plus shipping from Florida. . . After re-assembling the VFO, and installing it back into the rig - I have "zeroed" it and it hits "0" when the digital reads "0.0". With the help of the K4EAA capacitor kit, the B+ 460V has gone up to B+ 830V key-down. Sweet! The rig is in good physical shape for its age; no scratches, chips, or cracks. Compressed air and a paint brush took the very-thin layer of dust off the boards. Overall, I believe the rig was "original-parts", even the WARC [TOF] disable line was intact! The only non-factory modification was a "Phone-Patch" connection using the pre-drilled holes in the unit. A fun restoration, but the best part is this rig fits in better with the Collins S-Line stuff around it! 73, Chuck W3XC
