The cooling van on a V71 should run when the mic is keyed and for a short time after the mic is unkeyed, perhaps a minute or so, I don't recall. If you're sure the fan has failed and not the control circuitry then I suggest you replace it yourself. The fan is available through Pacific Coast Parts for about $28, here's a link <http://www.pacparts.com/model.cfm?model_id=TMV71A&mfg=Kenwood&back=0&action=list_part>. Scroll down to the fan and order the alternate part number shown.

I have a Kenwood TMV71A and the cooling fan appears to not be working.  I
wish to get it repaired.  Does anyone have the correct contact info so I can
get this rig back on track.  I use it as a homed base unit and when I do
volunteer work with the MS Bike ride each year.  Thanks!
