From af5cc2 at gmail.com Tue Dec 5 23:09:04 2017 From: af5cc2 at gmail.com (John Geiger) Date: Tue, 5 Dec 2017 22:09:04 -0600 Subject: [Kenwood] FS: Kenwood TS950SD dual receive HF radio Message-ID: I have for sale a Kenwood TS950SD HF transceiver. Once Kenwood's top of the line radio. It is rated at 150 watts out (does a little more on most bands) and has 2 receivers for dual receive. It has a 500hz CW Filter and 1.8khz SSB filter at the 2nd IF, and a 500hz and 250hz CW filters and 2.4khz SSB filter at the 3rd IF, so all filter slots are full. It has a built in power supply, an autotuner that will match about anything, and a built in CW keyer. Many other receive functions like Slope Tuning for SSB and Variable Bandwidth Tuning (both AF and IF) for CW. Also comes with the DSP-10 DSP unit. I do not know if it has the TCXO in it, but I am guessing it probably does, given that it has the DSP unit and all of the filters that made it a D model. The rig is in excellent operating condition, and good physical condition with a few small circle marks on the top of the case where something else was setting on it. Also the fan cage on the rear of it has a dent in it, but the fan still works fine. It comes with a hand mic, AC power cord, and manual. I am asking $775 for it for an in person deal, or $850 shipped for it. I can do an in-person deal in the Oklahoma City/Southwest Oklahoma/North Texas area. I can take paypal/check/MO. 73 John AF5CC From frank.woelfle at gmail.com Tue Dec 12 13:42:32 2017 From: frank.woelfle at gmail.com (Frank Woelfle) Date: Tue, 12 Dec 2017 11:42:32 -0700 Subject: [Kenwood] FS: Kenwood TS950SD dual receive HF radio In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: John, I am 100percent interested in Radio as a matter of fact I will go ahead and I'll take it if it is still available. You can make a Kenwood TS950S a 950SD by adding the filters and DSP unit. There is no way to make a 950S or 950SD into a 950SDX. Check out the QST review of the 950SDX for a list of the differences. 73 John AF5CC On Tue, Dec 12, 2017 at 4:58 PM, John wrote: > So how much more confusing can this get ?? > > > The radio for sale is a 950SD with all the filters and such, > > someone says that makes it a 950SDX > > and someone else says the 950SDX is far superior to a 950SD > > Sooo.. am I to infer that if I add a TCXO and more filters to my 950SD it > becomes a 950SDX?? > > > I always thought the 950SDX was different inside compared to a 950SD > > > can someone clear this up for me.. > > John > > N7JL > > > On 12/12/2017 02:31 PM, Steve London wrote: > >> And the TS-950SDX is a far superior radio. The 950SD added all but 2 filters, a TCXO, and a DSP unit. The 950SDX did not have a (S) model and had all that a SD had (still with 2 empty filter slots) plus an upgraded DSP unit and menus to control it. The Control unit, PLL unit (DDS IC's), Final unit (FET finals), and DSP unit were different. And from a later comment the 870 was designed after the 950 and had a later design DSP. The DSP unit has an input/output frequency of 100kHz which is hardly audio unless you are a bat. The comparable Icom to the 950 was the 781. The 775 was a later design. As I recall, the SDX was Kenwood?s first venture into DSP design so was a hybrid, retaining ability to use analog crystal filters, as was used in the 850. When the later TS-870 was released a few years after the 950SDX, the DSP design was an improved design with elimination of all analog filters and addition of DNR and Beat Cancel (auto notch). . In other words, a pure digital design, which was carried through to the current TS-990/590 radios. Bob K3AC k3ac at aol.com On Tuesday, December 12, 2017, John Geiger wrote: Hi John, The SDX is an almost completely different radio. If you read the section of the QST review of the TS870 where it talks about how the DSP is implimented, it mentions that it uses 3khz crystal filters at both the 2nd and 3rd IFs and then achieves the final bandwidth by overlapping these filters. The TS950S and SDX do have a manual notch which is usually better than an autonotch. I didn't get to use the 870 I had briefly under heavy contest conditions, but from everyday operating, I think the TS950SD will filters was a better receiver than the 870. 73 John AF5CC On Tue, Dec 12, 2017 at 6:02 PM, wrote: > Thanks very much to Cliff Holland for clearing up the differences in all > the 950 versions.
