John C. Kimbrough, WR3S, of Murfreesboro, TN repaired a Kenwood 430S that I sent to his place of business, Advanced Communications in Nashville. I paid him via Visa Debit Card thru PayPal. He texted me on 31 Oct that he sent it via UPS on 30 Oct . He said he would text me the UPS tracking number the next day. I never received the rig nor did he text me the UPS tracking number. He no longer responds to texts or calls to his cell or home phones He last lived in Murfreesboro,TN I'm hoping that someone on this list might know John or how to contact him and possibly would be willing to contact him for me. Since he's not responding to me, maybe he would to someone else. In the process of trying tyo contact him, other hams in his area have said they have heard he may be sick with cancer. His shop is closed but still takes messages on the phone. I don't wish hi, any ill, and hope he recovers his health if he is sick. All I want to do is get my radio back, even if it was not repaired If you know how to contact him or would be willing to contact him for me it would be a big help. You can contact me at this email, k9mtc01 at gmail.com or call 812-267-0917. Thank you and 73. I am hoping that someone on this list might know John or be able to contact him and find out the status of my rig. All I want to do is get my rig returned, even if it was not repaired, so I can have someone else repair it. He does not respond to my contacts so maybe he would from someone else. In trying to contact him other hams in his area suggested he may be sick with cancer. His shop is closed. I wish him well and hope he recovers his health if he is sick, but I just want to find out what happened with my rig. It cost me $350 to b buy it used. I paid him $250 m so I am out the money and have no rig. If you know John or know how rto contact him please respond on the list or to my e-mail, k9mtc01 at gmail.com or call me at 812-267-0917. Thank you for any help contacting him and 73. I am hoping someone on the list would know how to contact John Kimbrough. He does not respond to my contacts so perhaps if someone else who knows him could contact him for me, and find out the status of my rig. I relate all this to see if anyone on this list knows John and would conract him for me. I justwant my my rig back. I paid $250 to John for the repair. I bought ir used for $350. I bought a TL-922A from an estate sale that had been stored in an attic for 20+ years. I blew the dust out, plugged it in and turned it on. Worked perfectly. What's the worst that can happen if you do this ? The power supply capacitors are bad ? They'll go pow, and probably take out the diode string. You're going to pay a "knowledgeable person" to find out the same thing, and then charge you labor to replace them. If you want to be cautious, then borrow a Variac and ramp up the voltage slowly. I did that last year with an SB-220 that hadn't seen AC power in 20+ years. No problem. 73, Steve, N2IC On 01/16/2016 10:00 AM, Jim Plummer via Kenwood wrote: > I have a TL-922A that has been sitting on the shelf for the past 11 years. Prior to that it worked great. Also, I would run it for a while (a few days, at least) with the Mode switch set to CW rather than SSB. That puts around 2100 volts on the plates instead of around 3200 volts. You'll still get around 800 watts PEP out and a trapezoid pattern looks perfectly linear. AVVid (Clif Holland) in Mabank TX does Kenwood repair including the TL-922A. I don't know of anyone any closer to you than that. However his website states he won't accept any "large" radios that aren't in their original boxes with original packing material. Not sure what those of us are supposed to do whose original boxes have long ago been lost to the sands of time... fix the radios ourselves, I guess :-). Then run the amp w/o tubes up on the variac to reform the hv caps. The last amp i got had a blown plate meter and I bought the last one (supposedly) that east coast transistor had for about $80. I would put the double diode mod on that meter to keep from blowing it out if something goes wrong when you do get the amp going. I am not too sure of all the other mods to these amps however many think they are needed. They are great amps I have one hooked to a beautiful TS-940 with one spare in case of need. Thanks, George Griesbach, W5GRG, AFA6GG >> I have a TL-922A that has been sitting on the shelf for the past 11 years. Prior to that it worked great. I would like to use it again. I'm not interested in doing a smoke test on startup, so I would like to find a knowledgeable person to go through it. Louder signals appear about the same on the S-meters of either receiver. It's a minor detail, but if fixable I'd like to do so. Message-ID: <56ABD8D3.23688.12FC8D06@kgordon2006.frontier.com> I have a friend who owns a Kenwood TS-450s Ser#30200738 which he recently bought from an SK's estate. He is having some intermittant issues which I am hoping someone here can at least identify. Although I don't know ALL the details yet, he told me yesterday that the receiver goes completely dead periodically, the "S" meter dropping to zero. Keying the rig repeatedly will bring it back to activity at least for a while. I told him it sounded like relays to me, but I could be wrong. The unit does have a built-in automatic antenna tuner. Any help or suggestions? Anything "common" that sounds like this? Ken W7EKB From kgordon2006 at frontier.com Fri Jan 29 16:33:06 2016 From: kgordon2006 at frontier.com (Kenneth G. I had a problem with mine and one other with a bad solder joint where the antenna attaches to the PC board. Repaired solder joint on both and resolved the problem. That is the small knob in the upper right hand side of the TS 690.We are in the process of assembling our Club Station. I am sure the needed knob might be used on the TS450 (HF version of the TS 690 HF+ 6 meters). If anyone has such a small knob or knows where we may acquire such a small knob, please advise me and give me the details regarding how I might acquire it. Thanks? and 73, John, K5PGW
