Leaking capacitor on the front panel board that probably also etched out the
through hole. Cap from Digi-Key and wire soldered in the hole and excellent
soldering skills. I did not do mine (I bought the parts and the replacement
button pads from Kenwood) and someone else did his and mine. I can dig up
the info if no one else chimes in. Probably more cap problems to come. So
far that was the only one for me and started as intermittent back-light to
eventual nothing.

OK, Let me go straight to the bottom line -
Does anyone know of a "common" problem concerning the panel illumination of
the TS50?
Is it likely to be the lamps or is there likely a problem with the dimming
circuitry?
Experienced guesses being solicited.
