In lieu of clattering relays, cleaning them works wonders.

Some companies sell contact burnishing tools for cleaning relay contacts.

If you don't want to obtain another tool, the contacts can be cleaned 
with the edge of a $1 bill slid between the contacts.

Yes, they are definitely a pain to get to, but this cleans them without 
a bunch of contact leaf movement.

It is a method we used to do for power plant relay contacts.
