Hello Bob,
I'm sending this via the reflector because whenever I've sent you a
message direct to your e-mail address it gets bounced. It appears
that you are getting the messages but I'm never quite sure. I
replied to your message in which you sent the service manual. "Sorry
for the delay in replying but we were out of town most of the
day. I've got a local fellow that's had a fair amount of experience
with the 641/642/741/742 models and is going to walk me through some
diagnostics. I don't have much in the way of anything more than
basic test equipment so I guess it'll be mostly touch and
feel..hi..hi. I'll keep you posted on what we find out but at this
point I'm looking at the final as it appears that the driver is
working. It's odd though that when I key any other radio on a
frequency that frequency shows up on my freq counter but when I key
the 641, and although it transmits a signal that other radios pick
up, nothing shows on the freq counter. I'm not sure what that is
telling me if anything."
Since I wrote that we've done the diagnostic and it appears that it
is the final. My advisor has had trouble with the final in one of
his 742s over the years. He's had to replace it three times in one
rig. So now I just have to muster up the courage to tackle the
replacement procedure myself..hi..hi. The service manual you sent me
will be a great guide to what I have to do. Many thanks.
I also want to thank the other fellows on the reflector who offered
help with my problem. Best wishes to all.
73,
Gary
