Tuners are only needed if you do not have near 50 ohm impedance at the
output (usually about 35-75 ohm acceptable or over 1.5:1 SWR before radios
cut back power). Your internal tuner will tune the radio to the amp.
Again, if needed, since there is some loss through a tuner and if SWR <1.5:1
I would not even use. You would probably not use your internal tuner when
the amp is being used but only use internal tuner when amp is bypassed
(again, if needed). I rarely use my internal tuner since my antenna is
matched for most bands. You can always tell if your output power cuts back
without the tuner then your radio is cutting back and SWR should show above
1.5:1 (without tuner).
So, if you need a tuner for your antenna then you need a high power tuner on
the output of the amp. Tube amps usually will match a little wider range
output (say 2:1 SWR) before you should be concerned and need a high power
tuner.
Not my expertise, so someone else jump in. Just had not seen a reply yet
to the question and wanted to get you some answers.

Subject: [Kenwood] Question: TS-2000 with HF Amplifier and Tuner
I'm building a station around a TS-2000 and want to include an AL-811 amp.
Since the TS-2000 has a built-in antenna tuner, that means the tuner comes
before the amp in a block diagram That doesn't sound right to me.
Don't I need another tuner after the AL-811, or am I wrong?
