I've also discovered that even a 455Kc IF fed into the input will simply 
swamp the 8.83Mc circuit.  Look at the schematic and block diagram of 
the SM-220 w/panadapter.  It converts the 8.83Mc to 455Kc.  No need to 
bring out the 8.83Mc at all.

I've been doing it for years.  I've fed the IF from an R-390A, an SP-600, and the IF of the of the TS-930SAT also works.  At this particular moment I do not recall which one is output from the 930SAT.  It would depend which stage.  (Memory is a passing thing.)

The SM-220 with panadapter is a great tool.

One also has to see *which* panadapter is installed.  It can/does accept either the 5 or 8.  Mine has the 8.
