I currently direct key an Emtron DX-2sp and did key a henry 2K4 with an 
Icom 756 Pro and the Yaesu FTDX5000MP.

I'd be very careful direct keying any amp unless the manual states it's 
capable or you can see the components are rated for the required voltage 
and current.  "I think", but will offer no guarantee, that most modern 
amps can be driven by most modern transceivers.


I'd certainly not take a blanket statement between tube and SS rig 
driving capability.  OTOH most of the old tube rigs were capable of 
switching 120VAC to key an amp.  Not QSK, but they could handle the 
voltage and current and I believe that was the important point here.
