Well, Brian, here is ONE reason:

TS-820S Operations Manual, Page 20, section 4.13. CW Operation.

"Tune and load the TS-820 as described in Sections 4.1 through 4.11. Connect a key to the
back-panel CW KEY jack, set the MODE switch to CW, and set the stand-by switch to SEND
for transmitting."

What does this say to you, or to anyone else who has never used a TS-820? It says to me
that it has to be in SEND to transmit with the key.

However, on page 10, under (11) Stand-By Switch, the third paragraph, we read the
following: "SEND: The TS-820 is locked into the transmit mode in this switch position."

So, which is it?

And, the only way I can get any output at all under any other conditions is to set the Stand-By
switch in the SEND position.

Now...according to other things I read in the manual, for CW, one sets the MODE switch to
CW, sets the VOX/MAN switch to VOX, plugs in a key, holds the key down, while adjusting
the VOX gain until the rig keys on. However, when I do this, absolutely nothing happens. It
just sits there....unless I do what Section 4.13 says, and I set the Stand-By switch to SEND,
when I get output, but operating the key doesn't change it. It just stays at max output.

BTW, I have both anti-vox and vox delay set max CCW (none).setting them in any other
position makes no difference.

So, with the MODE switch in CW, I then set the VOX/MAN switch to MAN, key the PTT line,
and....get max output without touching the key. Operating the key makes no difference.

Now...do YOU still think the rig DOESN'T have a problem?

I disagree.

However, it DOES seem probable to me, at this point, that Section 4.13 is wrong.
