Yes, that seems a design flaw, which there's noting an be done.

I'm surprised you say that, as I ouldhave thought on HF the external
noise would be the limiting factor, not the receiver.

I know is has the optional keyer and memory board. I've no idea what
the latter does. The FM unit is an option, which seems a bit odd. I
would have expected that to be built in, given the rig cost nearly
$3000.
