[Kenwood] TS-140S high current question

I'm working on an unknown TS-140S that when plugged in is drawing 20 amps
and pulling the voltage down on my supply.
Of course this is not right and I'm suspecting D-6 the large reverse power
protection diode as being bad. Removing it to test is going to be a real
"bear" as it is heavily soldered all the way around to the board.
What will help me make this decision or not is to find out what resistance
others read from the +side of the power plug to ground. In my case it is
about 700 ohms both ways suggesting a nearly shorted diode.
Thanks for any guidance provided!
