[Kenwood] Tuning rate too fast on TS-940S

I have a couple of TS-940S rigs. One (the older one) tunes far too quickly. I've 
seen another chip is available on the internet which solves this and has other 
features, but is there any way of just solving this, without spending $50 on a 
new chip?
