[Kenwood] TS850 ALC & ACC2 question

Hello to the group.  I have got a question for someone with a 850.  I am trying out a Signalink USB sound card box with their cable that goes into the acc2 socket on the back of the radio.  I have tried to get the ALC down to minimum and have not had any success.  It does stay within the red ALC scale. Would like to try a digital mode (JT65HF).  So, what I am wondering, is the transmit audio level on acc2 pretty hot and would I be better off trying to use the 8 pin mic jack on the front?  What I am trying to do is set the ALC to nothing for a digital mode.  I have a 480 and was able to get the ALC set correctly.
