I carry my HT all the time. Put it in my laptop case. Take out the laptop but
not the HT. Never a word from TSA about it. Now my e-Book reader. That's another
story ;-)

Subject: [Kenwood] Radios in Cary On Luggage
I have never carried a large rig on board, but have never had a
problem taking a THF6 or similar HT, or a Sony SW receiver.
Just to be safe, I set the THF6 on a local FM radio station, but have
never yet had to power it up, nor have I ever been asked to show my
license.
I know you asked about radios, but what never fails to draw attention
in my home airport is the Braille display in my PDA. Apparently the
small pins which are controlled to form the Braille letters drive the
x-ray machine nuts.
The attention is always in my home airport. Coming out of Washington
National, Chicago, ETC, nobody even blinks over that equipment. They
simply treat it as they would a laptop, which, according to TSA, is
what they should do.
